Levi’s Workshops

I love Levi’s. In addition to making the best pair of jeans around, they also are actively involved in the music and art communities. They’ve been throwing the best parties at CMJ and SXSW for the last few years, and now they’ve just announced their Levi’s Workshops. Levi’s Workshops debuted yesterday in San Francisco’s Mission district for printmaking and will be followed by a New York debut later in September for photography. The Levi’s Workshop San Francisco will be a a workspace for local artists and designers where they can create their own print-based artwork, enjoy various events, and where people can purchase workshop inspired clothing.

Shepard Fairey “Neil Young” Canvas Print

Obey is getting set to release the latest print from Shepard Fairey. Paying tribute to Neil Young, the 18″ x 24″ canvas print is limited to 450, and will go on sale for $75 tomorrow through Obey’s online shop. I probably won’t pick this up, but it does remind me that I need to frame my four Shepard Fairey prints at some point.

Mario Post It Stop Motion

A few Japanese students recreated Mario with a bunch of post it notes. Really well done. I wonder how long this took them.

Nike Crayons by Diem Chau and W+K

Diem Chau carves figures into crayons. Because of her amazing talent, she was commissioned by W+K to create 11 sets of crayons for Nike featuring a number of stars of the World Cup. The results are amazing.

Hoverboard

“The Hoverboard is a project made by Nils Guadagnin, a young french artist. This work is born in 2008 for an exhibition named “Back To The Future”. It is a copy of the hoverboard from the movie Back To The Future II. Integrated into the board and the plinth is an electromagnetic system which levitates the board. A laser system stabilizes the object in the air.

In the making of this work, this artist was thinking about different ways of presenting sculpture. In fact it’s a reflection on the multiple possibilities of how to give a sculpture full spatial autonomy.”
